cyclic episodes of vertigoMy daughter, age 12, has had cyclic episodes of severe dizziness that occur every 60-65 days and last for several days. She has had these episodes since age 3. The vertigo begins in the morning. On the first day she is only dizzy for a couple of hours. On each of the next four to five days she is dizzy all day to the point of not being able to stand without assistance. Between episodes she has no symptoms. She is extremely light sensitve for a week after the episode. We have seen several neurologists and MRI EEG is normal. She has also had a metabolic workup that was normal None of the migraine medications prescribed have had any affect on the dizziness We have also seen an ENT who ruled out any inner ear problem. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
Re: cyclic episodes of vertigoIt sounds like a puzzling problem. Medications such as very low dose Klonopin can be helpful in vestibular disorders. It may be a form of migraine; Neurontin, Topamax or Depakote an be helpful if so.
