cyclic episodes of vertigo

Post a new topicby Guest on Thu Jun 13, 2002 11:26 am

My daughter, age 12, has had cyclic episodes of severe dizziness that occur every 60-65 days and last for several days. She has had these episodes since age 3. The vertigo begins in the morning. On the first day she is only dizzy for a couple of hours. On each of the next four to five days she is dizzy all day to the point of not being able to stand without assistance. Between episodes she has no symptoms. She is extremely light sensitve for a week after the episode. We have seen several neurologists and MRI EEG is normal. She has also had a metabolic workup that was normal None of the migraine medications prescribed have had any affect on the dizziness We have also seen an ENT who ruled out any inner ear problem. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like a puzzling problem. Medications such as very low dose Klonopin can be helpful in vestibular disorders. It may be a form of migraine; Neurontin, Topamax or Depakote an be helpful if so.

my daughter age 15 has been having bouts with vertigo. Started 1 year ago at cheerleading practice. weather was hot near
100 outside. She felt like everything was spinning and like she was going to pass out. Now she has episodes almost daily. She may have 5 days in a row where she feels normal. Followed by 3 days of on and off vertigo. Usually it makes her tired and she will lay down. We have had a ct scan
seen an ENT who ordered lots of tests including vestibular. The electronystagmography said persistant right beating spontaneous nystagmus increase with right lateral, suppressed with visual fixation. calonics-good response.
I would like to see a specialist in this area. We live in Redding Ca. any suggestions? Please help!
