just diagnosed

Post a new topicby kylereagan on Sat Feb 23, 2008 2:46 am

I was just diagnosed with ALS My doc was vague with details about what comes next. I began slurring words 10 months ago, began having cramps in my legs in the morning 3 months ago which now has developed into mild pain 24/7, have lost 20 lbs in about a year, much of it in the last few months, lots of twitching muscles (fasciculations), have a lot of fatigue. How far along am I? Will this continue and get worse for a year or two. Or am I near the end? A litle scary. Any input is welcome.

no one can tell you how much time you have left, normally what als patients die of is breathing problems and aspiration into your lungs, you did not mention anything about that ,so if you are not having those symptoms, sounds like it is more in your limbs them in your bulbar region, which is your breathing area.i found most of my info out from the internet,my dr told me that i have bulbar onset motor neuron disorder, which is als, guess he thought it sounded better then saying als.if the dr you are going to does not seem to want to discuss things with you and help you to understand, find another dr that you feel comfortable with..good luck..wanda
