Pregnancy after hydrocephalus

Post a new topicby Guest on Tue Jul 02, 2002 9:45 am

I have had hydrocephalus since birth. I have had a shunt since very early on in life. Recently wanting to get married the question popped up of children, and we want to know if it is possible for me to have children. What would the risks be to myself and my child? Would they also have hydrocephalus? Are there any precautions we could take to prevent harm?
Thank you so much for any help you can offer.

If your hydrocephalus has been stable since childhood, it is likely that things will go fine for you. I would suggest getting any of your old records together, and seeing a neurologist or neurosurgeon if there ae any issues that need clarification. There are many causes of hydrocephalus, but it would be unlikely that your children would also have it.
