Speech Problems

Post a new topicby Guest on Sun Jun 03, 2001 12:12 pm

I am a 32 year old male. I am married three children. My occupation is Inmation Technology Consultant. past year I have been having difficulty speaking clearly. I feel like I am constantly "tripping" over my tongue; straining to m certain words. is not a consistent thing. I might experience it a month fairly regularly, n not again anor month. Or family members say y haven't noticed any difference. I have seen my doctor about a few times he thinks stress related. Also, I have had an MRI in last year it looked normal. I have heard an MRI can't be used to diagnose ALS so probably doesn't indicate anything. Any feedback can give me would be appreciated.

It is reassuring that the MRI was normal, as many things could potentially cause speech dysfunction. If you do not have any other symptoms (muscular weakness/shrinkage/twitching, swallowing dysfunction, stiffness etc) and your doctor has not found any other abnormality, it is very unlikely to be ALS or another neuromuscular disorder. You might consider seeing a neurologist in evaluation to really assure you all is well.
