Twins and als

Post a new topicby bman1979 on Mon Aug 04, 2008 7:24 pm

My twin brother and I have both been experiencing strange symptoms for about five months. These include all over twitching, muscle fatigue, myoclonic jerks, and several other unexplained happenings. The twitching is sometimes random and sometimes comes after muscle exertion. Mine started about 2 months before his did. I have been to a physiologist for an emg(clean) and more recently to a neurologist. The physiologist ordered an mri which also showed nothing. I have been worried about ALS from the start and both doctors said not likely ALS because of age(29), clean emg, ect. Both doctors noted hyperactive reflexes and pointed to a CNS problem. I mentioned to them that hyperflexia was UMN sign but they said not likely. My main question is about the likelihood or odds of two individuals(especially twins) getting sporadic ALS almost simultaneously. There is no history of als in our family whatsoever. I know whatever its is getting worse and is not benign. My poor mother is worried sick and I regret even telling her about my fears. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
