From the inside out

My grandson’s name is Matthew. He is a wonderful loving 10 year old. He has autism He has been this way for about 7 years. He speaks slowly and walks slowly but everything else is like a normal 10 year old. He attends a public school in a regular class room. He continues with his speech therapy and occupational therapy classes.

He has an above average I.Q. and you are surely very proud. He is surely a very interesting boy who will struggle. Autistics are usually more honest, perceptive and sensitive eventhough it may not show to most people. I hope his teen years won't be to rough as this is a challenging time where agressivity and confusion reign. You must love him very much.

I can imagine how you feel. My little guy is 6, and after two years of speech and occupational therapy is reading and conversing, but still a "quirky". He is the most wonderful thing that ever happened to me. Your grandson is happy to have a grandma who loves him and supports him, and I know you (like I) are lucky to have such an unique little fellow in your life. It's good for me to know that we are not alone in this journey!
