Is this autism

Post a new topicby smeier on Wed Apr 02, 2008 6:06 pm

So my son is 2 1/2 years old. I think he has so many of the symptoms for autism He doesn't like to be held/cuddled, he uses my hand to show me what he wants, and he throws tantrums and bangs his head on the floor/wall. Sometimes he sticks his whole hand in his mouth to gag him self. He doesn't like to feed himself breakfast. I have to sit there and feed him, but for every other meal he's fine (or just doesn't want my help). And when i have to feed him, if the food isn't just right on the utensil he won't eat it. If there's too much or not enough or maybe some stuck to the bottom he won't eat it. It's so frustrating. He always wants to go to the park, but when we get there he stands around and watches all the other kids play. He doesn't play with them. He will point to things and tell me what they are (like "airplane"). He has lots of trouble telling me what he wants. I would say 90% of the time when he wants something, he will look at it and say "huh huh" or "mmmm". There are more things that bother me about the way he acts, but they just aren't coming to me right now.

I also forgot to mention that he is obsessed with wheels. He spends more time spinning the wheels on toy cars than he does playing with them as he should. If he actually does play with it how he should, he's still got his eyes on the wheels. Yesterday i went to a friends house to study and he found a part of a toy train track. He sat there and just looked at it for like 1/2 an hour to 45 mins. He would turn it around and look at it from different angles and just say "mmmmmmm".
