Why Me….

Post a new topicby livingwith on Wed Jan 09, 2008 10:43 pm

Hey my name i Melinda and I have Bell’s Palsy and it has been a great toll on me. My appearance means alot to me as I know to others, so this has been an issue for me. I work with High School students and going back to work is going to be a problem for me, not only for the appearance but my speech. I am a counselor so talking to the children will be hard. I have been down for the last couple of weeks, but I am truly grateful to be alive.

Melinda,

Last night I thought I was having a stroke and went to the Emergency Clinic. I am really down about having this facial distortion, but last night I was so thankful it wasn't a stroke that I didn't let it affect me trying to sleep. I did discover at the clinic my blood pressure was extremely high and they started me on meds for that. Today the effects of the disease are affecting me more. My cornea feels like I've scratched it and I'm getting ready to go buy an eye patch. Even with sunglasses my eye hurt and watered all day. I've tried to figure out why me. They say high bp is a factor, but I also have an ear infection.
What I realize is that we are all in the same boat and I guess time is our only ally. I'm praying mine is a short case with no side affects. Hopefully yours will be the same. I hope your students are supportive, but you know there is always going to be smartalecs in the mix.

Good luck and let us know how you fare.

Mike

Hey Mike, how are you doing? It has been a little over a week since your post. Keep us informed. I was just diagnosed today.
