Bell's is Scary Stuff.....

Post a new topicby SamC on Sun Aug 19, 2007 8:52 pm

I was just diagnosed with Bell's Palsy today, and at first I was relieved that it was BP and not a stroke or brain tumor, which was my initial fear... My symptoms started yesterday, and worsened quite a bit today. Just a bit scared of what tomorrow and the next day and the next day will bring.. I am intensely busy at work, and am not in the position to take time off at the moment. I am scared that i will end up not able to speak or be in front of people.. Also, when the Dr. at the ER discharged me this morning, he didn't mention anything about my eye, and how I should go about protecting it. Only after I got home and did some web research did I find out about the eye dangers. Can someone pls tell me how I can get some sleep tonight?

Hi Sam,

Use Refresh P.M. in your eye and tape your eye lid closed with paper tape. Use 2 pieces of tape formed in an X.

Thank you Don. I have some standard medical type tape on hand and will try to tape it up tonight. Hope it works ok. I am extremely worried of what I will be like in the morning, but hopefully this is as ad as it's going to get. I am just generally scared right now. Thanks so much for the reply.

Hi Tad,

I am doing fine. It took around 8 weeks, but the BP went away pretty much completely. I did extensive accupuncture treatments (3 a week) and while I can't be sure if that's what did it, it seemed to have helped a lot. I haven't checked on this page for a long time, but wanted to drop in.. Thanks for checking on me. How are you?

I have lived with bell's for 6 years, but when i was first diagnosed, my doc told me to tape my eye shut. It didn't work for me, so i put more tape on it, then i put a patch over the tape. I didn't even know i was sleeping with one eye open until ny mom came in and checked on me and i scared the life out of her...She thought i was dead because my eye was wide open.
