Post a new topicby Care on Tue Feb 24, 2009 10:15 am

I've posted a message yesterday but i haven't received any replies.

My husband has BP for almost a week now. Yesterday was his last day of taking Valtrex tablets. he's still the same paralized on the right side of his face. I understand that we have to be patient and it takes time but it is worrying the things that i read. Some people suffer for few months and some for years!!! A lot have mentioned to us that cortizone cures BP but the neurologist have refused to give some to my husband because he has no pain. Any idea concerning that??

He just started taking B12 and a vitamin that combines Gingo Biloba and Ginsing. I hope he gets better really soon :-(

Thank you very much for your reply. My husband is getting better now, he's on his 6th week I guess. As everyone say you really need to be patient. It's annoying but you will get better. Every week he sees a small improvement. His right eyebrow is moving a bit, his eye is blinking a bit more and his mouth is opening a bit more. I recommend you to take B12 cause I read that it's the best to cure BP (anyway it's always better to ask your doctor first).

I hope you'll get better very soon. Let me know what will happen with you and take good care of your eye cause that's the most dangerous part of the face. When the eye doesn't close well it is exposed to many bacterias to always were sunglasses when you go out and take care of the wind. Close it with a patch when you sleep and get an eye gel and eye drops so that it doesn't dry.

By the way, your doctor only prescribed you Prednisone? he didn't give you any Antiviral with it?

Anyway every doctor is different. Our one was against Prednisone and said only an Antiviral is enough. And as i mentioned above he's also taking B12 and a vitamin that has Gingo biloba and ginsing as they are very good for blood circulation and give energy.

What's also good is to drink a lot of either pomegranate or cramberry juice cause they thins the blood.

When massaging your face always massage gently on both sides at the same time and always look at the mirror as you might massage one side more than the other cause you can't really feel side which is diagnosed with BP

Take care

Wow... what a difference. I was diagnosed about 5 days ago. My Dr. also prescribed Prednisone. However I am not on a tampered dose. Just 40MG a day for 7 days. I only have two days left on my prescription. Have not really noticed a difference... it's frustrating, but I am hopeful that my face will losen up some.. if only my mouth so that I can speak more clearly. Please let me know if you notice any difference 5 days in or so on your tapered dose.

I have been suffering with BP since March 12th 2009 and this is my 5th time
having it. Mine started with an Earache at the end of Feb then the onset of
BP a week or so later. I started on day 6 with Prednisone and now thats
finished and im taking Acyclovir/Zovirax which is an anti viral med that I
have never taken before. I have seen NO change in my condition and I
started having alot of pain in the right side of my face and above my eye
and the lower part of my ear. All the other times I have had BP, I never
experienced any kind of pain so each episode is different. Im also taking
B12 but really don't know what good it does. I hope everyone here suffering
from BP will recover quickly.

I was just diagnosed with BP yesterday. I have drooping on my right side but oddly, its my left eye that doesn't close all the way and tears a lot. I can move the droppy side better that the "normal side". My doctor prescribed prednisone and valtrex. I believe I have a mild case after hearnig the rest of you but I was told it could get worse overthe next 24 hours. I'm seeing an eye doctor tomorrow as my GP said to be carefull of eye damage. Its early for me but I'm very curious whether anyone has had the droop on one side and the eye problem on the other? Thanks !
