my 86 year old gramma and brain cancerHi everyone,
My gramma is 86 years old. She was diagnosed 8 years ago with breast cancer and had a single masectomy. She done most of the treatment that was needed and now 8 years later is very sick. We took her to the hospital and after all sorts of invasive and non-invasive tests, she was diagnosed with cancer in her other breast, liver, back and brain. One month ago they gave her 2 months to live and now she is just going downhill. Her urine is brown colored, she sleeps constantly, has no strength to walk or even stand-up, her eyes have a fogged over look, and she is reminiscing alot about years ago. Each day there is a new symptom that occurs and within a 3 day visit with her i noticed the big changes in her. I need to know if there is anyway of telling how much longer she has. The oncologist had told us that the changes would happen quick, to me they are happening too quickly. I am wondering what else i should be prepared for in the next month or last month of life she has left. Thank-you, a very desperate granddaughter looking for answers
Re: my 86 year old gramma and brain cancerIt is hard enough to judge when you are treating the patient more difficult over the internet. No one knows with any certainty , given your description and the rapid rate of decline I would think less than months, more like weeks/days especially if she is not going to be treated for anything (hospice type situation). However I have no way of knowing for sure, just an educated guess, good luck
Re: my 86 year old gramma and brain cancerMy father too is having the same symptoms as your grandmother. He sleeps all day and is so weak that he can't walk without my help. They told us 6 months for him to live but now came up with some new clinic trial chemo they want to try. I don't know if he can survive chemo the way he is.
I just wanted you to know that I understand what you are feeling and I will keep your grandmother in my prayers. Prayer for her not to suffer and comfort for you as you are by her side.
