Carpal Tunnel Surgery- open

Post a new topicby sfu21 on Tue Nov 11, 2008 10:55 am

Hi,
I'm 18... and on December 19th I'm having open carpal tunnel release surgery... I tried the splinting... and the shot, but nothing worked. I then had an EMG test to confirm the carpal tunnel. Now, I'm having the surgery... I was just wondering what I should be expecting... do they put you to sleep? How long is the recovery?

Thanks.

I had an open carpal tunnel release on my right hand in 2007.
My bandages were removed after approximately three days leaving a small gauze pad and tape over the wound. Stitches were removed after 2 - 3 weeks and I gradually got back to full use over the next few weeks althoughh the scar was a little tender for a while.
I was encouraged to use my fingers from day 1 and the physiotherapy involved various finger exercises.
The pain in my fingers on my right hand disappeared.
Good luck with your surgery.
