Post Surgery Recovery - What to Expect?

Post a new topicby wristworry on Mon Feb 09, 2009 11:35 pm

I am an accountant and scheduled for carpel tunnel relief surgery just on my right hand. I am right handed. I am trying to asertain how quickly I can return to work, using my left hand and what use I can get from my right hand. I may need to return to work quickly. Has anyone in a similar line of work had a similar experience? Do I have to not work on the computer at all so my hand will heal correctly? I don't want to make my hand worse after surgery but I may need to work.

I am right handed and have had a carpal tunnel release on my right hand in 2007. I am a computer professional and was not off work for long. I had already taught myself to use a mouse with my left hand so I could function one handed without too much trouble.
My bandages were removed after approximately three days leaving a small gauze pad and tape over the wound. Stitches were removed after 2 - 3 weeks and I gradually got back to full use over the next few weeks althoughh the scar was a little tender for a while.
I was encouraged to use my fingers from day 1 and the physiotherapy involved various finger exercises.
The pain in my fingers on my right hand disappeared and I am now booked in to have my left hand done - likely caused by my left hand mouse use.
Good luck with your surgery.
