My special baby!

Post a new topicby livingwith on Sat Aug 18, 2007 11:24 am

I can’t believe there aren’t more stories here, but I wanted to share mine.
My son Matthew was born 12/15/06, with very low birth weight after a very long labor. There was no indication during my pregnancy that anything was out of the ordinary, and my prenatal care was excellent.
At about 6 weeks old we realized Matthew was not holding his head up the way most babies do - his head was constantly resting on his right shoulder. After a quick consult with WebMD, it became clear he had a...Read the full article

This story sounds alot like mine. I have a foster daughter who is now 9 mo. old, I've been her Mom since she was born. She was born to a drug addicted mother who had no pre-natal care at all. My baby had to be on methadone for awhile after birth, we gave it to her twice a day for over a month, and had to wean her off. At first she did not do anything but sleep. She was not developing on target, so I started her in physical therapy, she took off at 6 mo., she finally turned over, and then to my amazement started crawling at 7 mo. I didn't think she would do any of these things! Now the therapist wants her evaluated by a nerologist to see if she has CP on her left side mostly. We are waiting on the doctor's referral now. I'm just so proud of this baby, everything she does is a triumph for her and myself. She is now determined to get up the stairs, and has actually made it up 4 steps before we realized she could do it. We were proud parents. I would love to hear how your baby is doing and what the doctor says.

I have a baby with some very, very similar "oddities" and have no idea what is truly the cause. He has been diagnosed with a gross motor delay so far. He is in physical therapy and will soon begin occuaptional. He is 12 months old. He does a funky crawl, which is not really a crawl but either a roll and drag or he will use both hands and arms and pull his body forward with out really using his legs the right way. He tucks his thumb into his fist a lot, which is a concern of either a stroke or CP but also could be a result of him having a block of sorts and him not knowing how to use his hands.

It's all so scary. Will ever walk? or run? He has two or three "words" da-da, ba-ba, ma-ma but is not yet talking. He seems to use both hands but at different levels of strength. We have scheduled the MRI but have only done blood work so far. He is the happiest and most content of my three children and oddly the most physical. He is always just kicking with delight all the time.

I would love any feedback.
