Feeding problems

Post a new topicby zaksmum on Sun May 11, 2008 12:28 pm

Hi guys, I'm new to this forum but I have a little boy with severe spastic quad cp. He has just turned one and is doing quite well. We have a problem that even baffles his speech therapist. When we are feeding Zak solids he can't open his mouth so we almost have to force the spoon in. Once the food is in there he can kind of chew and swallows well. We are finding his inability to open his mouth very frustrating and don't really know how to help. We have tried tapping, massage, different positions, and so on. He can't see very well either so when the spoon first hits his mouth he throws himself back in shock. Has anyone else come across this problem and how do you help it. Zak does have a PEG but while he can eat well we don't want him to loose that ability. Please help.
