Hamstring Surgery

Post a new topicby txlady82 on Sun Nov 18, 2007 12:11 am

My 15yr old is have hamstring lengthening surgery in Jan. 08. They have talked about possible moving his Hamstrings to the inner front position of his legs. I have been unable to find any information on this type of surgery. Does anyone know anything about this procedure? Does it help? Are there any side effects?

Any type of surgery will have side affects depending on what they end up affecting. For most, it takes care of some problems for awhile but the most important thing that your son can be doing is stretching and keeping up with his PT routine on his own. Tell him to think of himself as an athlete who is in training every day!

If you can, come join us for some fun at the Abilities EXPOs (3 a year), World Congress on Disabilities (twice a year), and The Family Cafe Conference (in Orlando, FL once a year). Connect in with Easter Seals and see if he wants to go to Camp. Just keep inspired and keep moving! Make sure that if he is elligible for the State Medwaiver program that he is registered before he's 18.

The kids on the front page or NEWS dropdown videos of Assistive Therapy Solutions website <http://www.assistivetherapy.com> have had those surgeries. Kayla has severe spastic CP; Gabrial has CP, strokes, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, and other ailments but look what he's doing! Those 2 do their PT on the BunniSteps / eVO therapy cycles every day! The last video is a young man with Traumatic Brain Injury and stroke... who was paralyzed on one side... better see how he's doing! Kayla's dream is to walk across the stage to receive her diploma... she's gone from wheelchair to walker (on the video) and now on to crutches and 2 walking canes. There is hope out there but they need to work for it! We take it for granted most of the time!
