info wantedHello all, My best friend has just recently had a baby who has severe CP. Due to the severity, and the full-time care needed she has had to quit her job. Unfortunately, she is a single mother, trying to get by and make ends meet. Her savings is quickly deplenishing (on normal day to day needs: rent, food, diapers..) and she is quickly going to need help. She recieves assistance for all the medical needs of her baby boy however, I am wondering if there is any kind of aid to help her with the daily expenses like rent and groceries? If anyone knows of any assistance out there please let me know. She has so much to worry and think about I would love to help her and get her situated.
Sponsored LinksRe: info wantedFirst, ask her if she has connected with Easter Seals (CP information & groups), the Center for Independent Living (Advocacy services) in her area, and CP Support groups for parents of young children (either through Easter Seals, National CP Association, Shriners Hospitals (they do not charge for services), and your area Hospitals. The more connections she makes the easier she will find the information that she so despirately needs.
I would, also, connect in with Social Services. The first question they will probably ask her is if she's registered with the State and Federal Assistance groups for financial support in her State. Make certain that she tells them all that she needs financial as well as morale support at this time. If in Florida, make certain to sign up for the MedWaiver program (if you sign up before the child is 18, they will always be on medwaiver). I have older friends with severe spastic CP.. they exercise and get PT in order to reduce the pain. For kids 7 and up there are motor-assisted therapy cycles called BunniSteps and eVO through Assistive Therapy Solutions in the Ocala, FL area. That's what my friends are using every day and they love it! They love the fact that they can keep moving! <http://www.assistivetherapy.com> Tell her to find support and stick with it! Swampy
