diagnoised charcot foot

Post a new topicby livingwith on Sat Aug 18, 2007 3:55 am

I have been Doctoring with charcot foot for almost a year, first in a cast and now in a crow walker. It gets very depressing. I am told the bones are healing (had 14 fractures in one foot). I was also told I will have to have custom molded shoes and was told they are ULGY..Does anyone have any idea what they look like? I was diagnosed as diabetic at age 18 and now I am almost 56 years old…Thanks for any info….Carol...Read the full article

I am jealous that you have had surgery I have been battleing this also for about a year without any boot or anything ..My first foot doctor was new and now insurance so she did not do a x ray so for 8 months it got worse then the 2nd doctor thought the flar up was over and said after the scann he would be able to see if we needed a speical shoe but he paid was so bad and my "mens sneaker was very painful"
Then by chance I found a orthopedic shoe store that was my best find I got a pair of stock deep souled shoe and was able to walk comfortably again and the ulsers went away.

But I have not been back to the foot doctor in 5 months becuase of a diagnosis of cancer and Ihad to have a hystorectomy but I am doing ok...well the incission does not want to close all the way.

Now however the rocker bottom is now causing me alot of pain and Ihave to keep my shoes on all the time I have a pair of sheapskin slippers I can where at night But my foot is now hurting more and more It looks like what a call a balloon sock.

Has the surgery made a difference. Even with the surgery you may get depresssed but it will heal and heal correctly...Going without any protections is truly horrible too. For me the unbalance is what really bothers me..and the wall walking I have to constantly touch something. Thank God for the motorized carts at most stores.
