CMT with Cleft - HELP!

Post a new topicby ginumber4 on Sat Dec 01, 2007 3:11 pm

I am the mother of a 15 year old son who was just diagnosed with CMT He was born with cleft lip and palate and he also has Bipolar ADHD PTSD and multiple personality disorsder. I have just learned that there could be a connection between the bipolar the cleft-and the CMT since they are all genetic. Two possibilities that I was given are chromosome 22 deletion and contiguous gene deletion. I am having a hard time getting any info on these syndromes. Specifically I want to find out if they can indicate problems with any other systems. I am leaning very strongly toward genetic testing because of these other possibilities. Does anyone have any info that might help me?

So far, my son is presenting with the high arches, three curled toes on each foot and very funny looking hands. The nerologist said it looks like the muscles in his hands are pretty much shot, so we are probably looking at surgery in the near future. He also predicted foot surgery at 18 to support his arches. Does this sound familiar?

This is brand new to me and I am basically on freak - I'd appreciate any help or words of wisdom at this time.

I wish you all well as you deal with your CMT
