Post a new topicby livingwith on Mon Aug 10, 2009 1:01 pm

my only sister who suddenly collapsed at her work place on 4th Aug was in deep coma at ICU, this is her 5th day, the surgeon also suggest that we pull out the plug, we felt this is too early but she only stand a chance of 5% recovery. We hope for a miracle as she is only 43 year, been working more than 10 years as a kindergarten teacher with a kind heart towards the lovely kids. Her GCS now is only 4, the surgeon said the higer the GCS, the higher chance for her to recover. He said the best time...Read the full article

I am so sorry to hear this. I know everyone's situation is different but I believe it is way too early to pull the plug. My boyfriend was in a coma after falling on his head and having a blead in his brain and multiple bruises. They had to remove part of his brain. He was in a coma for 12 days before waking up. The Neurologists just kept saying how bad his scan was. The internal medicine dr. gave us hope. He said his scans are bad but he was doing better than the scans were showing and that was more important. The second day in the coma he did respond to the pain test. I'm not really sure why they told you a 5% chance. You have to know that they tell you what they normally see but the doctor's are not 100% sure and everyone's situation is completely different. We were told over and over again that they have no idea what will happen with my boyfriend b/c every person is different. Two people can have the same problems and one person may turn out fine and the other may not make it. They told us the first couple of days that he would probably not make it. It's been 6 months now and he was already in rehab walking. He has had a lot of infections setting him back and he is in the hospital now but his brain thankfully has not gotten any worse from the infections. I have heard so many stories from people in the hospital. Most of them were in a coma 2-6 months. I would wait if I were you. Again, I don't know your whole story and what her EEG results are but I would still wait. My prayers are with you!
