memory lossI have a relative visiting me who along her family members adm she is having memory problems. I am not familiar all symptoms, am at a loss to underst is happening her. She talks of past present accurate clearness she gets names mixed up a good bit of time can't remember word she is looking , usually a noun n will describe word she is looking , i.e. " we were just talking about" or draw a picture her hs. baffles me. She recognizes word as soon as I say correct one. happens all time. She constantly says her memory is bad whenever she can't think of word she is looking . So she is cognizant of she is saying also of fact she can't find words to explain she is saying. Thank any help can give.
Re: memory lossIt certainly sounds like your friend needs to be seen by a neurologist. Testing such as MRI/MRA of the brain to view both the brain and blood vessels, as well as laboratory studies, EEG (brain wave) can help rule out stroke, tumor, metabolic abnormalities etc as causative for the troubles she is having. In some cases, early memory problems may be a sign of dementia. The treatment can then be based on the disorder.
