cat scan reaction

Post a new topicby Guest on Wed Apr 17, 2002 3:15 pm

Hi, I am a 32 yr female and recently had my first "wet" ct scan. I was injected with 1 cc of dye to make sure that there would be no allergic reactions...well, after about 20 seconds all of my extremities went cortorted and frozen stiff. My veins in my hands were the size of my fingers and I was sweating profusely. This reaction lasted about 30 - 45 minutes. I did NOT feel dizzy or feel my chest constrict. Nobody there knew how to help me or what was going on. They flushed my iv and monitored my for a short time. Have you ever heard of this type of reaction before and does it have a name? I can't get much info from my radiology dept. or the drs. I also was told the dye used was the non-ionic dye which is to be milder. I would greatly appreciate any information that you would have. Also, no other medical conditions, no hbp, diabetes, 5 ft tall, 105 lbs. Was somewhat dehydrated when test was done.
Thank you.

I'm just guessing here, but I would assume that they gave you 1 cc of dye as a test injection, and you had a reaction. No more dye for you, ionic, nonionic or otherwise. MRI dye - gadolinium is okay, but no more iodine based contrast agents.
