Four months ago I developed idiopathic severe tinnitus. I had an MRI to rule out a brain tumor or acoustic neuroma I would like to know if Chiari Malformation could be ruled out using the views that were taken. Here is a transcript of the radiologists report:

Enhanced and unenhanced MRI of the brain.

Technique:
Sagittal T1 weighted and axial T2 weighted and FLAIR and pre and post Gadolinium T1 weighted MRI images of the brain were obtained.

Findings:
The brain has no areas of abnormal signal intensity nor abnormal enhancement. There is no evidence of mass or fluid collection or infarct. The CSF containing spaces are normal. The major vascular structures are patent.

The courses of the bilateral eighth cranial nerves have no evidence of abnormal enhancement nor mass. There is no evidence of abnormal enhancement or mass in the cerebellar pontine angles.

There are several types of Chiari Malformations. The most common should be at least suggested by a typical MRI of the brain.
