Why does this have to happen?I too get extremely sad when I read the stories posted about encephalitis. My daughter who had only turned 18 this year was struck down by this wicked viral infection in May 2009. To this day we still have no confirmation of what type she had. Her life was just starting, a bright intelligent young woman, studying at Uni, working 2 part-time jobs, now, bang. At home, unable to work, concentrate, cannot remember things, cannot stay awake for very long. Why??? It is sooooo unfair for this to happen.
I have been trying extremely hard to stay positive for her but somedays it is very hard. I truely do not believe she has fully comprehened the extent of this nightmare and I think her journey is going to be long and difficult. We can only hope that this dreadful infection can be researched a bit more thoroughly and the diagnosis can be picked up earlier. I often wonder if my daughter had of been treated in the early stages of this illness would have her prognosis have been better. Stay strong all of you encephalitis survivors!
