14 year old 1st seizureTo start off she had a headack fri at football game she's in the Band Home coming weekend very busy for her sat night had dance 4:00 to 12:00 got home and in bed at 1:10 did not eat very well for two days. Had small headack before dance. At 10:46 on Sun my wife hears a noise she found her having a seizurer it lasted 6min and she was not herself for 20min. At the Hospital she came out of it like nothing happened she was not tired. We still don't know anything she was found 4 steps away from her bed on the floor. She has a sore cheek and her head hurt from being on the back broad. All test come back good no drugs. Brain looked fine. We are waiting for dr app. but now I and my wife have put her in are bed with my wife. I can't sleep my wife can't sleep. I don't know what to look for to tell if she have another one. I thought my daughter was gone. It has hurt so much and I know she is scared. Need help in understanding this. How long before this will happen again. I know a person can not stand to many of what my daughter went thur. I pray that one day they find an anwser to help people.
Re: 14 year old 1st seizureGet a good neurologist. One that talks to you, and to HER, and explains things. Access the local Epilepsy Foundation for support groups,and knowledge. Talk about it with friends and family, let her be comfortable with it.
Know that not every epileptic brain shows any sign of defect: you and your daughter may never get an answer to the question of why me? Also if you have found that neurologist they have told you that one seizure does not mean epilepsy, especially in an adolescent still growing. And if it is the diagnosis, it is not unusual or shameful. Some people are tall, some are short, some have brains that behave, others don't. It will be one of the many characteristics that define her life, but not the main one by far.
