mini seizures?

Post a new topicby janetdok on Sat Dec 15, 2007 6:06 pm

I have a 13 year old son who has seizures and PDD caused by a chronic brain infection, his condition is ongoing and deteriorationg. In the last few months we have changed his seizure meds from all topax to a combo of topomax and keppra, because the topamax didn't seem to be doing the trick anymore and he was having more and more seizures Lately i have noticed that he has what i would describe as "mini seizures" a few times a day where he stares off and is unresponsive, much like the beginning of a seizure but within a few seconds he snaps out of it and is fine. Has anyone every heard of this? does this mean the meds he is taking are not working? any help would be appreciated.

Hi...Yes, it sounds like the seizures that I get, which are partial complex seizures...You should definitely mention this to the neurologist...I stare into space for a few seconds and lose sight of what's going on around me, and then, I just snap out of it...I was diagnosed with these seizures about 4 years ago, after I had a brain surgery...I am on neurontin, dilantin, and zonegran for my seizures...I also started suffering from the myclonic seizures recently too...that happens at night time and it involves my muscles...Good luck, I hope things work out for him...

thanks for your reply, since that post we have changed his medication and now he is on just depakote, he is much better, and has not had any seizures mini or otherwise since the switch.
