Problems with my seizure meds

Post a new topicby CWDancer on Thu Dec 24, 2009 6:50 am

Hi my name is Tammy, and I have complex partial seizures I was on Keppra for a while but my insurence won't cover it anymore. So my doctor had to change it to Savella. I was still having seizures so he added tegretol. I didn't react well to the addition of the tegretol. I ended up in the ER on Saturday. The ER doc said that I must have been having a reaction to the savella and when the tegretol was added it magnified the effects that I was having. My sodium level dropped to because of the tegretol. The major problem is my neurologist is vactationing in Germany untill the 4th of January. Plus I was supposed to have a hysterectomy on the 29th of Dec, but because of this problem with my meds they won't clear me to have it. His office said that if I'm still having symptoms that I should return to the ER. I'm just so frustrated because how many times can you go to the ER for the samething. I also called the on-call Doctor, and he said that since he had not ever seen me he can't do anything for me. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. Thanks, Tammy

I have the same condition as yourself. I ran out of insurance when the company I was working for collapsed. I had no money for the medications I was on so I just let them run out. I had always had issues with my medications. I have been on almost every seizure med at one time or another. Well when I ran out I started having multiple seizures daily. Both complex-partial and full. Finally I went to the ER and saw a doctor for a few minutes. Basic blow off and script written. I then went to this medication that he put me on that I had tried years before only now it works great. I felt better than I had in a decade. Sometimes I have found that the less medication you are on the better. I was having more problems it seems with taking multiple meds due to the drug interactions. I also am paying less for this medication than I was for others when I had insurance. I think if you continue to have seizures instead of trying something new they throw more medication at the problem which solves it but only temporarily. I would try to find a good neurologist that you not only are comfortable with and trust but doesn't overprescribe meds. You may not even have to go find the "best doctor". I went to the health department and had a better experience there than in over a decade of visiting neurologists.
