Overview

Tremor is involuntary trembling involving a certain part of the body. Essential tremor (ET) is tremor that occurs with purposeful movement (e.g., holding a glass to drink, shaving, writing, or buttoning a shirt). It occurs most often in the hands and head but it also can affect the arms, voice box (larynx), trunk, and legs.

Essential tremor is caused by abnormalities in areas of the brain that control movement and does not occur as the result of disease (e.g., Parkinson'...Read the full article

Treatment options

As a Practitioner of Holistic Therapies, I offered Reiki to a client with essential tremor. Whilst she received the treatment, her tremor ceased. Reiki offered her total relaxation and release from her anxieties that she was concerned about, which I believe impacted on her tremor. I have seen through this experience, that people with essential tremor may benefit from a relaxation aided therapy, to help them control or manage their tremor. The more relaxation this client practiced, the more benefit she found relieved the tremor. I wish everyone with essential tremor, peace, emotional security and calmness, in order to help relieve their symptom of this condition.

Thank you all very much for this excellent set of reports. I have become aware of tremors about the neck and head. The problem started around my fifty-eight birthday. I suspected PD at first, but soon realized it was not likely. I have had a number of serious and life threatening illnesses: Blood Poisoning, Glandular Fever, Double Pneumonia, Meningitis and Poliomyelitis, then Yellow Jaundice.
I might be forgiven for believing something or someone out there was trying to kill me. Anyway I am still here.
In later life I suffered the onset of the secondary effects of the Polio further exacerbated by a bad fall from a scaffold, whilst working on a building site. I bet you are now finding it very difficult to resist laughing out loud at this point, I confess to a shared wry smile. Until these head tremors started I had begun to consider the possibility of my being immortal;-)
I find I can stop these head tremors, which have persisted over the last three years, by a concentration of willpower alone. Whether I can continue to do this over time I have no idea. However at least I now know it is not PD, so thanks again. Tony.
