Coughing and throat clearing

Post a new topicby lilred on Fri Aug 08, 2008 5:08 pm

My sister just pointed out to me that I have almost constant coughing or throat clearing unless I am talking. I know I have ET, but wonder if anyone has had this problem as part of their ET
Thanks, Helen

Mine is not constant...but I do have the coughing. It may be from the BP meds though.

I don't have the coughing but I do find myself clearing my throat quite often and I'm not on any meds. I just thought it was just me.
Hugs to all

I have just found this forum. I have had ET for around 15 years. I also have a problem with throat clearing but never connected the two things until now.

Greetings all, my first post and am happy to find all of you. Not that I'm happy you're all suffering from ET it's nice to have people who understand.
I don't have a lot of coughing but my kids have told me for years that before I speak, even if it's at a drive through restaurant I'm always clearing my throat. I thought they were nuts at first but sure enough when I started paying attention I do clear my throat prior to speaking wheather it's to talk to someone on the phone or just a plain conversation. If I don't clear my throat it's as though I have a frog in my voice. I am on Inderal for ET. Dave

Thanks Deb for the nice welcoming and info on the other site. Wish you luck with getting your meds adjusted and hang in there. It's nice to know your not the only one holding your cup in public places with two hands so it doesn't spill or shaking so bad that when you fill a form out at a Dr's office it looks like scribble. I don't mean I'm glad you or anybody else has ET it's just nice that somebody else understands. We'll be talking via the boards. Thanks,Dave

Nice hearing from you Dave. I have found that drinking thru a straw helps to limit the spills..even coffee. Tell you a funny story..about 3 weeks ago my hubby and I went out to breakfast and of coruse I got a straw for my coffee..a woman younger than me was watching and she told her husband..see..I am not the only one that has to drink with a straw. We got to talking and she has tremors..she has not been diagnosed, but from what all she told me I woudl bet it is ET..she took my number and we have been talking. I find it amazing there are so many of us out there! It is great to be able to share and hopefully help each other!
