Emotional Problems associated with ETI actually have Familial Tremors as mine is hereditary. My father, brother, sister and two children have it. One thing that we have noticed is that our family also suffers from anxiety and depression From experience, I know that it seems to just come across us and the tremors get much worse. We believe that the depression and anxiety are part of our disorder but haven't seen it listed as a symptom of ET
I will often have an attack where I am unable to control my body and shake but also get the anxiety Does anyone else get this? I know with us: we all seem to except my one son who has limited symptoms at 10 yrs old. Thanks. Nicole
Re: Emotional Problems associated with ETEssential tremors is very distressfull, very emotional, and a very embarrasing condition. I have ET of the head and occasionally throughout my body. I have struggled for 15yrs. If you have ever suffered a loss of a loved one, then I would say that it is very similar to the grieving process. Once you have the symptoms you are terrified, when you are diagnosed you are in denial, then you go through the why process and blame god cause whom else is there to blame, then you go into depression which depending on the person can last for some time maybe even years. Eventually you come to glimpse with the condition, but you only become numb to the idea and learn how to deal with it. It is very normal to have emotional issues. My advice is to find things that make you happy and do them no matter what people may say or think of you. Dont stop living cause life is too short. Keep a smile on your face and people will smile back. Stretch and do a minimal of 20 mins excercise everyday to get your day going, excerise also released endorphines and helps with depression. Drink lots of water cause when your body is dehydrated the ET seems to progress and stay away from caffine and cigarettes and cigarette smoke. These are things that help me so i hope that this helps you.
Re: Emotional Problems associated with ETI'm bipolar and have ET. I don't know if they are related, but I doubt it. I started having symptoms when I was 10 and depression didn't set in until I was about 15. I just came on here today because I just had my first panic attack! I'm 50 now. I was carrying hot water, then thought I might spill it, then started to shake more, then became very afraid and I couldn't move at all. Terrible feeling.
Re: Emotional Problems associated with ETI have Bi Polar and essential tremor runs through the generations. I thought this was a disease of the old but I guess not. I think I have been having this problem for while but the symptoms were to mild. Handwriting going down hill - mine was never great, trouble with writing checks my hand would jerk suddenly, writing letters and addressing them. Also car accidents and trouble focusing. It is hard to tell what this all is.
Re: Emotional Problems associated with ETInteresting, I have bi-polar and ET. Same with my Mom and our daughter. I get tired of taking so many pills. My big problem is alcohol, I don't shake after a few beers, but I go overboard to often and then the tremors just get worse the next day. Nice forum here.
