Essential TremorMy right hand and leg shakes sometimes and when I hold things and write
I would like to know if it's essential tremor, I have told the doctor but sometimes I think I don't know if I'm getting through to them. I would like some help. Martha
Re: Essential TremorHi MArtha..I would see a neurologist...even though it was not him that did diagnose me. My family Dr with a lil wine test..haha...He told me to go home..get a glass of wine..and if the tremors lessened then it was PROBABLY ET..it it did not help then he woudl test further for Parkinsons. The Nuerologist just confirmed what i alread knew...He did not even change my dosage of meds from what my family Dr. gave me. Over the yrs the dosage has had to be upped though because the tremors worsed for me. I wish you the best in your search for answers..please let us know how it is going!

Re: Essential TremorI too was sent to a neurologist who confirmed my intention tremor. I literally can't write any more without holding my hand steady with the other hand-it's really frustrating. I'm on inderal & neurontin with no relief. No shaking when I just hold my handstraight. Bonnie
Re: Essential TremorHi Bonnie...I too have to hold my hand at times...it goes with the territory. Some days are not as bad and i write pretty well...other days are horrible. I take Primidone and Inderol...alone they dont work. Together they make it tolerable. My Dr. just added Gabapentin to it also and I ahve taken it for a full month now. For me it did not work. I do even think it made the tremors a tad worse so I will not refill it. Our next experiment with be Mirapex to add to the other 2. Let me knwo how you are doing!

Hi, Bonnie. I found the neurontin (gabapentin) made my handshakes worse. I discontinued it and went to another neurologist who prescribed primidone in place of the gabapentin. After only 125mg of primidone, along with my usual daily 120mg of propranolol, my shakes diminished dramatically.
Re: Essential TremorI'm definitely going to ask my neurologist to switch me because I don't see any decrease in my tremor with the neurontin. Thanks for the info. I hate not being able to write & people looking at me funny because I have to hold my hand steady!
Re: Essential Tremor / RSD CRPSHi All,
I got RSD from a leg injury about 3 yeas ago and developed RLS and PN and shakes from it. The Nurontin was the worst. It made me worse. Did nothing for the pain or shaking and made me a Veg. perhaps a carrot at best! The doctors had me about 20 drugs before I founf Mirapex. I started on Mirapex and Xanax and Vicodine for the pain and got better. Then went to Mirapex and Xanax and Oxycodone ER and I'm much better. It took almost 3 years for the doctors to find this combination of drugs to work for me. I suffered pain beyond anything you could think of. I had tremors and my body moved in a jerking motion at niht with force. They wanted to cut me and sever nerves and inject me and I fought the doctors and found meds that worked for me. Try Mirapex for your issue and then find a cocktail that rounds it off. People have said they gamble on mirapex but I'm not anymore compulsive than before. I'd say booze is a no-no in large amounts but that's it. For those of us with RSD also known as CRPS Mirapex has been a God send. I still have bad days but I can live my life now and when the pain is bad reach for extra Oxy. What matters most is that I'm functioning and never take one day for granted. Hope this helps and bless you all.
Re: Essential TremorI am glad that you finally found the right combination! Keep on a trucking!
MErry Christmas and God Bless! Deb
