Essential TremorMy father-in-law had a deep brain stimulor implanted for ET The first time it was activated, when he left the hospital(after a same-day surgery), he went out to lunch with his son and everything was O.K. They ate and he felt O.K. He was dropped off at home and about 8hrs. later a different son went to stay with him and his speech starting slurring and his muscles went weak. He was helped to bed and the next day was found on the floor of his bedroom. He was never able to lay down once he sat on the bed. He could not move his muscles and was in a lot of pain "from head to toe". He ended up sliding off the bed and sat on the floor all night with no sleep. He went to the hospital and was thought to have had a stroke CAT scan showed nothing to support that finding. When the stimulor was turned off. His symptoms slowly but completly went away. He was doing fine. The Dr.'s say the stimulator had nothing to do with it. They did say the probes in his head moved so they couldn't turn it on again. Now a few months later the Dr. turned it back on. He was again O.K. when he left the hospital. He was dropped off at home again. We didn't know the stimulator was turned on. The next day he was found unable to talk clearly and couldn't move. He fell on his knee so it hurt. He was taken to the ER and given morphine for pain. He passed out and could not be woke-up. Once again his diagnosis a stoke. CAT scan showed nothing again. When the stimulator was turned off he woke-up. Now we are waiting to see if he comes back around. His right side is paralyzed and has no feeling, except his knee hurts from the fall.
Re: Essential TremorI am so sorry to hear this..I will keep him in my prayers! Please let us knwo how he is doing!
