Needed: Movement Disorder Specialist

Post a new topicby lilred on Thu Jan 22, 2009 3:41 pm

Hi,

I am looking for a MDS in my area. I am located in upper east Tennessee.

My current neurologist has taken me off of Primadone and started me on Klonopin. I am very unhappy with a medication that can be addicting and requiring to increase the dose as tolerance is built.

He also wanted to treat my migraine headaches with Lortab and Phenergan. I do not like trying to live my life on addicting medication.

Any help would be appreciated. I am trying to look on line, but so far I am not having any luck. Anyone know of any good sites?

Thanks,
lilred (helen)

I finally found a site and got several names of MDS names in Knoxville and Nashville. I am going to have to check with my insurance to see if any of them are on my plan.

My sister has noticed the change in my awakeness and says that I am even walking slower since I was started on Klonopin. It has seemed to help with my tremors a little. Klonopin won't take me closer to returning to work because of the sedative effects.

Until I can find a new MD, I will have to follow what my current neurologist prescribes. I am still taking it one day at a time and that makes it more manageable.

I had wondered about this drug...I know it is time to up my meds, but I truly hate to..I get so in a fog...and when the time release kicks in my head spins..heart slows and goes kathunk..but speech and tremors have worsened just in last few months. I keep going, but am wondering for how long. Helen, I ahve been reading a book about different conditions and nutrition..and juice fasting...I dotn knwo if it will help with the ET, but it may help with my osteoarthritus that is makign me hurt all over...still readign the book..but along with the juice fast is a spirtual fast...I am finding it very interesting...will let you knwo more as I do, but one thing he did mention si that it helps Parkinsons..soooo...gonna give it a try..as you know..i try lots..haha..ohhhhh..started a gentle form of yoga also. I ahve to tell you I had never felt so relaxed...tremors lessoned for short time..pain in hips eased...I keep looking for natural ways to help us instead of these drugs that slow my heart...and keep me in a brain fog at times
