New joiner

Post a new topicby lilred on Mon Jul 21, 2008 1:45 pm

I was glad to find this site. Gave me insight to my tremors and things that go along with it. Learned new information. Explained why my tremors and depression have increased. I too am having problems with work. My supervisor was very rude when I told him that I would be out for an unknown period of time. I am a health care professional. I am currently out on Medical Disability due to my tremors and depression Stress at work has been horrible. I was diagnosed with Essential tremors last July (2007) by a neurogist. (It took me from May until July to get in to see him.) I have had to go up on my medication (Primadone) several times. I thought my tremors were under control, but they are now back with a vengence. I am unable to stand still or sit without shaking so much that I almost fall down or fall out of my seat. I am able to move or change position and stop them temporarily. I am currently on a calcium channel blocker for my heart problem and cannot take a beta blocker along with this. I will discuss changing with my Cardiologist when I see him at the end of this month. My medical doctor has told me to start on paper work for my disability. He does not see me going back to work. I am 59 years old and have been working in a hospital since I was 17 years old. My thoughts sometime just ramble and I am having short term memory loss. Has any one else had these problems associated with ET? Typing this letter has required many corrections and thought (still feel that my thoughts are rambling) problems. Thanks for letting me vent. lilred

I am so sorry about your job. I am afraid that a lot of folks with ET face the same thing. SO far I am ok at work. I am a Realtor and have ahd soem bad shaking days while with customers. I got a few yrs ago to the point of telling folks I have ET. I find they are very open to that and actually it probably make sthem feel better than to think they have a REALTOR who is very nervous..haha I also find on bad days that my thinking is a tad confused. On those days I try to have a slow day. AND if I am nto busy I just go home..work in garden..go for a walk...or just sit down and read. Seems to help to not be in stressful situations. I love my job and hope to be able to continute for many years, but we never know. Each year I progress more with the ET.. I am looking into acupucture. HAve heard some promising things about this. Keep in touch and let us know how you are doing!

Hey I am a new joiner too. I also have problems standing and sitting and what I can tell you is the best thing to do for that is a cane for keeping balance but as far as the sitting I can't be of much help, sorry:( Your doctor is also right about the paper work, I know this because my doctor told me I couldn't work. What I did was applied for SSI and I got it, but let me tell you it's not enough to live on. So just hang in there and I hope my suggestion helps.
