Son newly diagnosed-possible essential tremors

Post a new topicby carolpiffy on Fri Jan 30, 2009 10:37 pm

My 21 year old son has a mild seizure disorder and just had his yearly physical with his neurologist. The doctor noticed my son's hands shaking and, after discussing this with him, suggested that it MIGHT indicate essential tremors This is all new to me. Everything I have read seems to suggest that this is progressive and can be debilitating. The doctor said he wants to see him next year.
Any suggestions on what we can read or do? What should be our next step?

Hi Carol...read thru all the posts. IT can be debilitating, but not for everyone...we are the same although we are different. Some ahve had to quit working..soem ahve NOT..I am one of the ones that is still working. I am a Realtor..i ahve gotten to the point that I just tell folks that I ahve ET...that way they dont think I am nervous or scared..or that I am sick because my voice is hoarse most of the time now...I also backasswards type now which you can see..i will leave my mistakes..grrrr..thank goodness for spell check! I wish you and son much luck..DO NOT let it become the whole focus of your life! Folks can and do live with it and there is NO way to tell how bad your sons ET will get..only tiem will tell!
God Bless

Deb:

Thanks so much. You have helped me put things in perspective and I am a little calmer now. My son has a great perspective about this too and just says he'll take things a day at a time. He's a very busy college student and he doesn't have time to wallow!!!

A friend of mine is wrapping up her training in osteopathic medicine and she has seen some success with acupuncture so we may explore that alternative if/when my son feels a need to.

Thanks again
And may God bless you and yours

Hi Carol..I have heard soem folks have tried that..i have not YET...but have looked into it and it may help. Also, I am readign a book about juice fasting..whether it will help or not remains to be seen, but I will let you knwo when i do it. Book says to pick out 3 days that you can stay hoem and rest as you go thru the process so I have not been able to do it as of yet. ALSO, go to this site...nighthawkminerals.com I have been in touch with him and he thinks he can help my arthritus and is looking into ET. As you can tell i check out everything..haha BUT, i do nto let it take over my life..I ahve been living with ET for over 25 yrs and I do whatever I want. Sometimes a lil slower. I dont allow it to take over ME..even though it has changed ME..as I said before it has effected my voice and I no longer can sing which was a huge part of my life...and I use straws to drink so I dont wear it...your son can and will live with this..support him and know that there are a lot of us out there!
God Bless
