I have found this site to be very helpful. There are a lot of different things that are being tried with varying degrees of success. One treatment is not for everyone. Finding the best for you will be between you and your physician. If your diagnosing physician is not a Neurologist, you need to see one. They seem to be the most up to date and willing to try things.

I will list some of the things that I have read about from other people:

Beta Blockers (Inderal, Metropolol)
Primadone
Diet
Botox injections
Combination of beta blockers and Primadone
Accupuncture
Yoga
Topamax
Using weights
Deep Brain Stimulation (usually considered as a last resort)
Some people drink a glass of wine before going out in public. That seems to give them temporary relief, but some say that the next day is usually worse for them.
Other meds ( I cannot remember the names)
There are others but I cannot think of all of them.

There is another site called WeMove ET Forum.

I have found that reading back postings to be very helpful for information.

People are always listing new things that they have heard or read about.

I guess we are all on a constant search to find new things that may help.

Hang in there and don't give up. A lot of people get depressed and tend to isolate themselves, but you need to get out and be around people. I have found that when people stare at me, I explain that I have Essential Tremors and it is something that cannot be controlled completely. We can help to educate others about ET and maybe we won't be the center of attention because of our tremors.

You may find that some days are better than others. I hope so. Just know that you are not alone in this battle. Sometimes when I get down, I look at what others are writing and I know that they are worse off than I am, but they are still finding ways to cope and share with others.

You will find that a lot of us have trouble with a lot of typing errors. That is part of it. Some people have problems with their voices and singing. Writing with a pen or pencil can be a chore some days.

Hang in there and know that there are others who care.

Jen, Helen has given you lots of good information. The only thing I can add is that anyone with any form of respiratory disease should be very careful with beta blockers, as they could potentially cause death.

I find that eating out with a friend or family member solves most, if not all, associated problems. They can carry your plate(s), if at a buffet, or cut up your food. Don't hesitate to ask the waiter for extra napkins, a heavy glass or cup, and a straw. They're usually very cooperative.

As to signing your name in a store, your ultimate solution will be credit cards containing RFID chips, and they're being issued now. Once stores place RFID readers at their cash registers, signatures won't be necessary. Actually, even without RFID, signatures are only important if fraud is alleged. The card imprint is what usually counts, and signatures are rarely compared. Should a cashier insist upon a matching signature, simply offer photo ID that shows you're the person named on the card. If none of this works, use cash. You'll probably end up spending less.
