Did i have GBS?

Post a new topicby em4411 on Sun Sep 02, 2007 9:57 pm

I am 16 years old. Recently I went to the hospital due to not being able to walk very well. Before all this started I had had a sore throat a couple of weeks before. The night before I went to the hospital, I had tingling in both my legs from my feet to my knees. It lasted for about 15 hours, and kept coming and going afterwards. After that I experienced severe weakness in my legs. It was so bad I couldn't stand for longer than 5 minutes. I got to the hospital and they told me I may have gbs I happened to have a friend with it so I called her. I told her what was wrong and she told me I had all the symptoms she did. When all the doctors came in they couldn't find anything wrong with me and told me it was all in my head and I wanted attention. My balance was off and I had lost one of the reflexes in my feet. I was in the hospital for about 3 days with them doing various tests. Later, when I was home, I started doing some research about GBS and found out that if it's mild then the symptoms may not extend beyond a feeling of weakness and it may improve on its own within a few weeks. My weakness lasted about a month or so and then got better. I've been through many tests that show nothing was wrong with me. I just wonder if I had the mild case. Please tell me what you think.

It certainly sounds like you might of or you could be just relating to your friend and were worried about a strange feeling in your leg after your sorethroat. However, the lose of reflexs should indicate something real as opposed to being in your head, good luck

All this happened around the beginning of March. My friend was diagnosed with it in December. When I was in the hospital I didn't know exactly what my friend had. All I could remember was that it had a strange name. So after they told me I could have had it I called her. When she told me it was what she had, I became a lot more worried. Its just been bugging me that I never knew what was wrong. Thank you for your reply also.
