Hello Doctor, several years (about 15) I have had I call attacks of left sided numbness pain. It first began my left foot, progressed to my left h n left leg left arm. I know it is r cidp would be on one side. Anyway, seven years ago I had a spinal tap to rule out MS lymes. Also had mri of brain spine. Nothing. At time put on Elavil 25 mg took until recently it had to be elvated to 50mg. no longer seems to help. I pain is more intense "attacks" more frequent lasting progressively longer. It used to be 2 days of bedrest would get me back to normal. n a week, my most recent attack lasting a month. (Difficult to make a long story short, re have it) Any input would be appreciated. Kathie

It is reassuring that the diagnostic studies that you had were within normal limits. CIDP would be a very unlikely cause of the spells. The spells really do not fit any typical pattern for a known neurological disorder (seizure, migraine, TIA being unlikely).

Hello kathy; Who is your neurologist? I am asking because normally I would think that at least one other test like an EMG would be well deserved. I have read your story and would like to know if you can by now tell where this pain may originate from. I ask because some medications can cause side affects much worse than any symptoms ever could. Have your pharmacist do a printout on this med you are on. They will normally do this for you at no charge.
