vertigoI am a 32 yr old female, mother of two children, 5yr & 7yrs. No real medical problems until one month ago, when I started having brief, periodic episodes of vertigo accompanied by a fuzzy sounding buzz in my head. These symptoms have escalated to the point at which I am unable to work, or do the daily chores that I used to do. If I watch T.v, and there is too much light flickering, or spinning, I become so disorientated and my visual field is compromised for approximately 10-30 seconds. I cannot drive and look in a different position, turn my head, bend over to pick up objects, or even move my eyes in a different direction, as the symptoms are overwhelming. I feel that nobody believes me, as I do not look ill, but I am totally incompacitated by these symptoms. I do not have earaches, sore throat elevated temp, or flu like symptoms, but I am ill. I've had an eeg done, which was negative, cardiac enzymes were normal, cbc, free tsh, lytes, creatinine, mono spot, kidney function tests, were all within normal limits. I have had a 24hr holter monitor, which was normal. I am awaiting an ENT specialist for a consult, but I have to wait 6 months. Is there any answers for this? I am sick of being sick!!!!!
thanks so much, Carol.
Re: vertigoIt sounds like seeing a neurologist would also be helpful, especially given the visual field symptoms you are describing. It may be that the symptoms rae on the basis of an inner ear vestibular disorder, which can be triggered by moving the head, bending over etc. Medications such as Meclizine or Klonopin may be helpful. MRI of the brain is also part of the work-up for some individuals. Good luck.
