Post a new topicby livingwith on Fri Aug 17, 2007 4:15 pm

hello. I just keep asking myself about this-how do i keep reminding myself that my girfriend’s facial spasm (her mouth pulled to the left, the bridge of her nose accents/swells with a kind of vein and her eyelids tends to shut )-whenever she smiles, frowns or laughs -is only a matter of “beauty is skin deep”?

I just feel shy whenever i’m going out with her but i do really care for her. Please help....Read the full article

I also just experienced a hemi-facial spasm. It affected the left side of my face...and I was so embarassed to leave the house !! My Doctor prescribed me a medication called Baclofen. I was taking the max dosage of 80mg/day. It took almost 3 weeks to kick in, but my face is back to normal. Now all I need to do is start lowering the dose to wein myself off the medication. It does get better, you just need to be patient.

Take care...

wow, your description sounds so familiar !
That's exactly how i USED to look. For years i no longer took photos. I was worried and embarrased when i had conversations with people because i never knew when the twiching would start. But it did start, that was a given. towards the end, the pulled mouth/nose/neck you are describing would remain like that for minutes it seemed.
i had microvascular decompression surgery by Dr. Sohaib Kurshi in San Diego five years ago.
It was a COMPLETE success. The problem was gone as soon as I woke up from anesthesia. Of course i was told this treatment is not guaranteed, but If it comes back, I have had several good years now where i don't have to worry about the embarrasing twiching that you know about.
she should consider this surgery. ( i did the seizure meds., botox, acupuncture, etc. that did not work)
Good luck,
Angelica
