hemifacial spasms

Post a new topicby livingwith on Tue Apr 29, 2008 3:21 pm

I was diagnosed with hemifacial spasm in 2006 and botox was suggested but my insurance rejected this treatment. (I do have different insurance now but based on my research I don’t know that I would want to take the botox route) I am sure like many of you I had to go through many doctors describing the same symptoms over and over before ever getting this diagnosis.
Like many of you described mine started as a spasm around my left eye and then over the years went down into my face about 10 ...Read the full article

Hi, It began for me in March of 2007 with just a little twitch above my left eye. By October of 2007 it got progressively worse and turned into a hemifacial spasm. The spasm would actually pulled my lip up so it looked like I was smiling on one side. Nice and embarrassing as you know. I have been seeing a neurologist. I was on skelaxin (a muscle relaxer) which helped a little but I wanted it to go away completely. I cannot attribute to anything that would have caused this. My stress is no different then it ever was. I did finally get Botox to the left side. I had two little injections above the eye and two below the eye. it seems like it helped a little but I feel like I have pressure around the eye. It has only been 4 days and I will follow up with my doctor in a couple of days. I am sad to say at this point it has not removed the entire spasm at this point. I am also going to see my eye doctor to hear what he has to say. Good luck to you.
