inherited from fatherHello. I'm from a family with HD
although i tested negative myself. My brother (age 42) passed away almost 2 yrs ago and his 22 yr old son tested positive just yesterday. I seem to remember being told that if you inherit the faulty gene from your father then you will develope the illness at an earlier age than he did. Can anyone out there tell me if this is true or false?
Re: inherited from fatherI married into a family with HD. The test results show the number of cag repeats for the HD gene. (anywhere from 36 to 120) My husband had a 42 repeat and my son had a 46 repeat. I have been told that the child having the higher number of repeats will show signs at an earlier age. My husband actually started showing signs around 48 and the Dr told my son he may start showing signs around 42.(He is 30 now.)
Re: inherited from fatherNot true in my familes case. I have 37 CAG repeates. I have been sick since I was 25. That won't matter. It is your family history. We early onset. My family got it in our early twenties. I am a former Nurse. My Mom died when most people get it. My family all died around forty.
Re: inherited from fatherI was 23 sorry. Brainfog.
