Progression

Post a new topicby Guest on Sun Jun 03, 2001 12:12 pm

My far just turned 61 in February has recently been diagnosed Huntington's Disease We started to notice his nervous twitching about 4 or 5 yrs ago now it has progressed to slurred speach, dance type twitching, delay in response to questions, a slower ability to complete a thought process. I wondering is progression of HD symptons such as inability to swallow, loss of balance, more diabilitating ailments.

The progression is often variable, but over the next year or so, you may notice further disability. Neuropsychiatric symptoms may even present before chorea. I would suggest that you read about HD on the Neurologychannel website. There are good support groups that I think can often be helpful to patients and family members, with regard to practical day to day issues, genetic testing etc.
