I am a 27 year old female that had been diagnosed with this when I was 24 due to a car accident. I havn’t had the shunt but I have had the third ventricularostomy done, and need to have the shunt but I am reluctant about it. I still have a hard time coping with it because it has changed my life because of someone not paying attention on the road. I suffer the consequences and have recieved nothing for it which makes me want to just give up. I would like to talk to people that have this and...Read the full article

Please try to get past your anger and do what is right for you. None of us can undo the past, but we can deal with the future. My husband has recently been diagnosed with NPH and we are considering a shunt as well. There are numerous articles on the internet about shunts and the results.

Please take care and do what is best for your future. I understand your anger. I'm also windering why this had to happen to us, but I'm sure we will make it through this.

Good luck.

Please! I encourage anyone with hydrocephalus to hold their heads up high. You are your worse enemy. I was first diagnosed at the age of 18 (entering my first year of college with a full baseball scholarship). After several seizures/headaches/shunt revisions/hemorhages/temporary paralysis, I am here standing tall at 6"05 inches, 230lb's of muscle, and very active on a daily basis. I came to the conclusion that I needed to work harder (which made me a stronger person). My eye sight was never the best but the lasik surgery improved it substantially (peripheral still poor though). I know that this condition has made me a better person. I am humble, more appreciative of the little things around me, and look forward to any other challenges this condition presents to me. I have lived with a shunt in my chest for 14 years now. I would love to help encourage anyone I can with this condition. Feel free to email me at [moderator note: e-mail address has been removed]. I look forward to your questions.
