escaping alcatraz, fighting hydrocephalusMy name is Peter and on August 15th I will join TEAM HYDRO in the annual Sharkfest swim from Alcatraz to San Francisco to raise awareness and funds for the non-profit Hydrocephalus Association.
There is no cure for hydrocephalus, a life-threatening condition affecting the brain, which afflicts 1 million Americans. TEAM HYDRO's ranks have grown to nearly 2 dozen swimmers from ages 12 to 60! Together we hope to raise $20,000 for hydrocephalus research. We know times are tough. Even if all you can do is learn about hydrocephalus, WE THANK YOU for your support! We are inspired by my sister, Kate, who lives with hydrocephalus and the chronic pain that comes with it. In the past few years she has undergone over 50 brain surgeries in attempts to treat her condition. Won't you join us in the fight against hydrocephalus? Please visit www.teamhydro.org to learn more, to watch our 1min video, and to donate. Re: escaping alcatraz, fighting hydrocephalusPeter--
I am so glad you posted on this forum, telling us about your sister, Kate, Team Hydro, and the team's efforts to raise funds for the Hydrocephalus Association. It is wonderful that you, your brother, and your buddies are helping to raise awareness of this disease by participating in the Escape from Alcatraz swim. I don't envy you on swim day :), but I certainly admire your determination to help those afflicted with hydro. I was diagnosed with it at age 39 and have had my shunt for 15 years now. I have been fortunate in that I live a completely normal life. Now at age 55, I am a runner and avid fitness "freak," having done 10K's, half-marathons, a century bike ride and the bike portion on a triathalon team. So I truly appreciate the training required for your upcoming swim challenge. I am sending a check to the Hydrocephalus Association in support of Team Hydro for Sharkfest 2009. May you and your team do well, both in the swim, and in your efforts to raise funds and awareness for hydrocephalus. I wish the very best for your sister as well. Good luck on August 15th.! Martha p.s. My story is on this website along with my numerous posts--mp327.
Re: escaping alcatraz, fighting hydrocephalusThank you so much for your support and encouragement!
Check out our site WWW.TEAMHYDRO.ORG to keep up to date on our progress. And if you'd talk us up and pass our website along to any friends or family who might contribute (or just learn about hydrocephalus) that would be WONDERFUL! Thanks so much!
