First CT scan in 15 years coming up!Hi Everyone--
I am the 55-year old female who told my story previously on this forum. I was dx'd with congenital decompensating hydro at age 39, 15 years ago. A VP shunt was placed in December 1993 and I have had the same shunt since then, with no problems until recently. Since May 2009, I have been waking up a little foggy and not being able to walk very well. This has not been constant, but frequent enough to begin to concern me. So, I made an appointment for September 1st. to see the neurosurgeon who I saw back in 2000 for my last evaluation--he is not the doctor who did my surgery. At that time, he looked at the films I took with me, including my last CT scan done in April 1994. He told me he could find no problems upon exam and advised me I did not need to come back to see him unless I had problems. So, given the recent symptoms, I was to see him on 9/1. I went to his office, films in hand, saw his PA who did a neuro exam, while he looked at my films. He decided he would not see me that day and that I needed to get a CT done, then he would evaluate me. So, now I'm scheduled for a brain CT on 9/23 and will see him 2 hours later. I left there very disappointed and wishing he could have ordered the CT prior to that visit. Now, I'm finding myself getting a little nervous about this appointment, as I do not want to have to have a revision. I think I did okay on the neuro exam. However, I realize how very fortunate I have been all these years, never having any problems or need for revision. I am not complaining one bit, as I realize so many others have had numerous revisions throughtout their entire lives. I just needed to express my anxiety somewhere where others would understand. Thank you for listening! Martha
