Hydrocephalus with intermittent seizures

Post a new topicby youngmom5 on Wed Dec 19, 2007 7:38 pm

My son is 4 1/2 years old. At four days old he had a VP shunt put in for hydrocephalus. He was so behind developmently that he worked with a teacher and physical therapist twice a week from one year of age until he went to headstart. He worked so hard to be caught up developmently. Now his neurosurgeon thinks he may be having intermittent seizures He is also regressing developmently. Has anyone else had to deal with something similar?

Hi

My daughter is 1 year 4 months. She also has hydrocephalus and her physical development is also very slow. Thankfully she is active , she speaks a few words, she responds well. But she has seizures, and she hasnt started sitting or walking yet. She is going for physiotherapy and its always best to stimulate her with what ever ways you can. Lets hope for the best

I am not as old as your son (32) but have had three seizures myself. They all occurred the first two years after the shunt was placed. I have been seizure free for over 12 years now, with the help of medication (dilantin). Wish you and your son the best. Stay positive. You will notice him becoming more independent and stronger mentally to compensate for being "different" compared to the other kids around him!
