Problems with Shunt after Chemotherapy?

Post a new topicby mp327 on Mon Aug 03, 2009 9:15 am

I have had my one and only shunt since age 40, 15 years ago, with no problems. However, in June 2008, I was diagnosed with cancer and underwent 6 weeks of treatment, including chemotherapy and radiation. I was doing fine post-treatment, but within the last 3 months, have had problems with extreme fatigue. Within the last month, I have noticed that I feel faint sometimes, accompanied by difficulty walking straight. I have also been waking up feeling like I'm in a fog, which sometimes takes hours to improve. I have had no nausea or vomiting, no urinary problems, peripheral neuropathy or headaches. My question to any of you with a VP shunt is has anyone had chemotherapy for cancer? If so, did you experience any similar problems to mine post-chemo? I am aware of what chemo can do to the inside of your body and wonder what effect, if any, it could have on a shunt. I have searched the internet and haven't been able to find any websites that address this. Any info anyone could give me would be most appreciated. Thank you!
