lyme disease treatment

Post a new topicby riley11 on Thu Sep 06, 2007 9:24 am

A friend of mine has been diagnosed with lyme disease and is on antibiotic treatment. Is it true that if the antibiotic is working, the symptoms will get worse before they get better? That's what is happening to my friend. Appreciate any input.

hi,

yes, that is absolutely true. when you start an antibiotic treatment for lyme disease you usually experience a "herx" reaction. it usually intensifies around the 5th day. that is the organism being killed off and being thrown into the blood stream. i have had lyme for 14 years.

if she is getting worse on antibiotics for a time before getting better that is a good thing. you have to also consider, although, the amount of time she was sick before treatment.
