We are in ICU step down with our family member who has had meningitis for over 10 days. Begain with migraines and quickly escalated to this point. 1 week ago, he was not expected to live.

Hello there...in 2003 I began having weird "car sick" spells for no reason. To make a long story short, it escalated to headaches that became violent migraines. I went to 10 different doctors over 3 months. I was always told that I had too much stress etc. I eventually began to vomit uncontrolably and run a 101.0 fever. I went to the local ER where I was sent home by a NP with a "sinus infection". My sister flipped and took me back and demanded that I be seen by a specialist or chief physician. I was diagnosed with Bacterial meningitis and life flighted to a larger hospital. After 8 days and multiple MRI's and Spinal taps, they finally found the cause. I had developed a Bilaterl Sphenoid Sinus infection. I never had the first sinus problem. I had never even seen a PCP or had allergies before. Apparently it was just acute inflamation that occured for no apparent reason. Because no one found it, it continued to create mucus that seeped into my spinal fluid. I lived obviously, but I now have severe neuralgia. Bad neck and back pain. From what I have read, less than 2% of the population will develop meningitis this way.
